What’s that feeling?

The other day a new patient returned and shared with me an experience I have heard so many times, although never expressed quite like this… Perhaps you can relate to this as well? “After I have a treatment, it feels like… ‘acuphoria’!”  I thought it was such a wonderful expression that I immediately told her that I was going to ‘steal’ it!  I simply love this new word.  And as promised (and with her permission), I am stealing it… but only to share it with you!

What is this acuphoric feeling?  I believe there are many things at play here.  When we have acupuncture, our bodies release natural painkillers called “endorphins”.  We are also in a peaceful atmosphere, gently connecting with the energy in our bodies and allowing our minds to quiet down a bit.  Our bodies, minds, and spirits are returning to a balanced state, as the energy moves with assistance from the needles… and we receive the wonderful gift of acuphoria.  So enjoy the experience and feel free to share this perfect word!
