The Season of Your Will

From the Winter 2011 Newsletter:

In Chinese medicine, each season has physical, emotional and spiritual elements that influence our lives. Winter’s spiritual aspect is the will.  When we think of having a strong will, we might think of that ‘willful’ toddler who simply will not let go of that favorite toy or any idea that they have settled on.  But as we age, we begin to understand that having a strong will is more than simple stubbornness.  It is at best an idea that has grown with our inner guidance, developing strength of purpose or will.

As winter is now upon us, I invite you to treasure this season as an opportunity to go inside to your deepest (yin) aspect and listen to your inner voice.  Perhaps cultivating a mindfulness practice, aligned with your preferences and beliefs.

It is from this place that we set our will for the beginning of a new cycle and the coming year. The seed that lies in waiting sprouts when the yang energy of spring arrives. Similarly our will, having been nourished by the yin of winter, can burst forth with a strong drive to create.
